It is true you don't pick your family. A family whether you like being around them or have misgivings anytime you encounter them plays a big part in your life.
I have a mix of both where I have family members who I can give my blood if they need it and then there are family members I just hate being around and it's just to do with their behavior problems or views they have which go against every fiber of the man I am.
Story to remember
One of my uncles during my cousin's marriage told us a story about my Grandfather wanting to adopt a kid from Bangladesh and take them with him so he could raise them up and help them overcome a better childhood due to a troubled background caused by poverty.
Even though my grandfather did not adopt any kid, just hearing that made me feel proud of his views, as it is very rare to see adopted kids in Bengali families because of idiocracies of what the society or community will say about adopting.
I heard this story 11 years after he passed away if he was in front of me I would have given him a hug and a kiss of the cheeks. So whenever I remember about my grandfather this story always resonates when remembering about him.
Cherish every moment
One thing I realized after getting married is this:
Parents are like soldiers. They effortunatley for unselfish reasons love and educate their kids for free. They do this for the rest of their lives.
One thing I regret in life is not taking knowledge like a sponge from my dad was such a hard-working individual. He loved doing anything labor related such as DIY and gardening. He would never shy away he had so much love to dive into something. I just wish whenever he would ask me to help me out my thoughts I wanna quickly help Dad and then go back inside watch TV or continue playing on Playstation.
The proof is in the pudding I can honestly say I'm hopeless with DIY. Like, even assembling a coffee table I didn't do it properly my wife after coming back from work finished it off.
It hit me when my dad had a stroke 3 months after I got married that I wasted not taking his knowledge and experience and absorbing the knowledge and using it in some way.
That's why I say cherish every moment you have with your loved ones you never know when someone will get bedridden just like that with a finger click.
Family vacations
List of countries I have traveled with my family:
- Performing Umrah with my family in Makkah and Medina, Saudia Arabia
- Family holiday in Dubai
- Family holiday in Istanbul, Turkey
- First holiday with my wife (mini-moon) in Cardiff, Wales
- Honeymoon in Bali, Indonesia
- Big Family holiday with my wife's family in Sharm El Sheikh, Egypt
I can honestly the best times I had were going abroad with my family whether it was before marriage or after marriage. Going to a different country is like breathing different air and on top of that you experience different cultures, experiences, and cuisines.
